EuroVértice enhances its capabilities with Obama

Posted by | uncategorized | No Comments

Our colleague José Pablo Delgado is one of the selected, from more than 2000 candidates to participate in the I Summit of Technological Innovation and Circular Economy, which takes place on July 6 in Madrid. The summit was organized by the Advanced Leadership Foundation, based in Washington a global specialist in training international leaders.

His election has been carried out because they are looking for opinion leaders in the efficient use of energy as a resource and its integration in circular economy models. His 25 years of professional experience and about 20 as a professor at the Polytechnic University of Cartagena has allowed him to develop a knowledge of which EuroVértice is guarantor in the projects developed.

The summit will include world-leading leaders such as Barack Obama and three other Nobel laureates: Finn Kyndland and Sir Christopher A. Pissarides (Economics 2004 and 2010, respectively) and Barry Barish, Nobel Prize for Physics in 2017. National and international ministers will also attend. Other countries, former heads of state (Ecuador) and elected heads of state (Colombia). In addition to that communication experts who will be responsible for enhancing the skills of the selected participants.

The objective of this event is to raise awareness of the benefits that this new economic model offers for the society and the environment, creating a network of leaders at the national level capable of contributing with their criteria in the transition from the linear economy in which we move towards a circular economy.

From EuroVértice we support and collaborate with this type of initiatives so necessary to carry out this change, aware that the future will be circular or there will be no future.

World Environment Day

Posted by | uncategorized | No Comments

Today we celebrate the World Environment Day. An auspicious day to stir our consciences and encourage everyone to change our habits as they may result in a direct benefit on the environment, increasingly affected.

During the past few days, an important number of information has appeared in the media with a pessimistic approach to the situation defending the idea that there is nothing to celebrate on this day.

We are all aware of the impact that the human being is causing on the planet and our environment, the space we need to develop our existence. The human condition itself and the consumption habits that led us having consequences on the environment that are beginning to be dramatic: cetaceans and other animals beings killed by ingestion of plastic bags, affection to wetlands that make them incompatible with life , limits of environmental pollution continually exceeded in large cities, etc.

These cases are so striking that they have a direct impact on society, so we find ourselves at the moment of history in which citizens are the most interested party in environmental problems (official data from the CIS). Perhaps this interest is not accompanied by greater awareness, and fewer change in habits, but the fact of showing interest is already a very important first step, and only for this, the day deserves a celebration. A celebration that encourages the human being to continue taking steps, and with the urgency that the matter requires, towards a change of attitude towards the use of resources and their impact on the environment.

There are many environmental challenges that we face. But it is, without doubt, climate change, the most important challenge that humanity has ever faced. The effects of this change in climate are already happening and it is in our hands to act actively in its fight to reduce carbon emissions, being more efficient in the use of energy and taking advantage of the renewable resources that nature puts at our disposal.

But, in addition, it is essential to adapt our cities so that we can all live with this transformation in the climate that is already occurring. Actions related to the generation of shadows in the cities, drainage areas to avoid floods and the planting of native species are the subject of the LIFE Adaptate project in which EuroVértice participates.

The efficient use of natural resources, increasingly scarce, leads us without remedy from one linear economy model to another in which the value of these resources is maintained over time for more than one life cycle. This is the circular economy, in which EuroVértice has been working for years and whose model is being implemented in the meat industry thanks to the CIRC4Life project. We also collaborate with the Regional Circular Economy Strategy, which aims to be a starting point for this holistic transformation towards an infinitely more sustainable model.

The marine environment is showing us the harshest image of the environmental impact produced by the man. In this sense, EuroVértice participates in various projects related to good practices for sustainable fishing, the protection of marine areas, the fight against underwater noise and invasive species, etc.

Scientists speak of this age of humanity as of the Anthropocene, the first epoch in the history of the world in which man has been able to change the course of nature on our planet. Many speak of a dystopian future, pessimistic about its future and the inheritance that future generations will receive.

From EuroVértice always work actively in the defense of the environment, acting on our territory and disseminating the knowledge developed with our projects to change consciousness and habits, it is everyone’s responsibility to correct the impacts already caused and deliver our children a better planet than the current one.

Keys to sucess in LIFE call 2018

Posted by | Calls, Europe | No Comments

On April 18th, the LIFE Programme call was published for this year 2018.

LIFE is the EU’s flagship tool to finance actions that have a direct impact on improving the environment and the climate.

The call is increasingly focused on projects that contemplate solutions close to the market, therefore, the participation of private entities and projects that are close to the market and ready to receive investment is encouraged.

The development on a larger scale and the reproduction of the results obtained as a means to guarantee the sustainability of the projects is also considered fundamental.

From this call onwards, the orientation towards the results is reinforced, and it is an essential requirement to produce measurable effects on the environment or climate change in all the priority areas.

The most important innovation is, undoubtedly, the simplification of the procedures for requesting funding, by launching a two-phase application procedure for the projects of the subprogramme Environment and Efficiency in the Use of Resources. In the first stage, it will only be necessary to submit a summary document (11 pages). If this phase is passed, propject proposal will be invited to present the complete proposal, with more financing options.

LIFE finances up to 55% of the total eligible costs of the project, in the categories of personnel, external assistance, equipment, infrastructure, prototype, consumables, other expenses and indirect costs. In the case of Nature and Biodiversity projects, the co-financing of the EU can reach up to 60% (and 75% if the project has as its object species and habitats of priority interest).

The typology of projects is defined by the subprogram and priority area in which the actions are framed:

Sub-Programme Priority area Project type
Environment Environment and Resource Efficiency Demonstration and pilot
Nature and Biodiversity Best practices

Demonstration and pilot

Goverance and Environmental Information Information, raise of awareness and dissemination
Climate Action Mitigation of Climate Change Best practices

Demonstration and pilot

Adaptation to Climate Change Best practices

Demonstration and pilot

Goverance and Climate Information Information, raise of awareness and dissemination

Within each priority area, the call marks priority issues. Projects that address these issues receive a higher score according to the selection criteria.

The thematic priorities are within the following sectors:

  • LIFE Environment and Resource Efficiency
  1. Water and marine environment
  2. Waste
  3. Efficiency in resources, including soils and forests, and circular economy
  4. Environment and health, including chemicals and noise
  5. Air quality and emissions, including urban environment
  • LIFE Climate Change Mitigation
  1. Reduction of Greenhouse Gases in sectors not subject to the Emissions Rights Regime.
  2. Improvement of greenhouse gas emissions in large industries.
  3. Fluorinated gases, their alternatives and adaptation of standards to these alternatives.
  4. Uses of the soil and its variations and forest management.

For adaptation

  1. Cross-border management of floods
  2. Transfrontier coastal management
  3. Urban adaptation and territorial planning.
  4. Inclusion in land management, urbanization and natural resources policies of adaptive approaches
  5. Resilience of infrastructures.
  6. Sustainable water management (drought, littoral and floods).
  • LIFE Nature and biodiversity

For nature

  1. Natura 2000 Spaces
  2. Species and habitats
  3. Marine projects

For biodiversity

  1. Prevention of the net loss of biodiversity and ecosystem resources.
  2. Endangered species and habitats
  3. Green infrastructures and connectivity
  4. Fight against invasive species

EuroVértice, who is an expert in the LIFE Program, will participate in the Information and Networking event scheduled for 4 May in Brussels to work on new projects and collaborate with our network on projects with high added value.

EuroVértice collaborates in the diagnosis to implement the Circular Economy Strategy of the Region of Murcia

Posted by | Europe, EuroVértice | No Comments

The government of the Region of Murcia approved in September the start-up for the development of the Circular Economy Strategy of the Region of Murcia (ESECIRM). EuroVértice has been selected to work on the preparation of the initial diagnosis on which the actions of the strategy will be based.

This work is carried out by identifying organizations, initiatives and projects linked to the key aspects of the Circular Economy that are being developed in our region. To this end, meetings are held with agents involved in order to obtain the necessary information for the diagnosis. EuroVértice also contributes with its knowledge about European policies in this field, as well as detecting possible regional actions to be carried out within the framework of the different European funding programs.

The circular economy model is a concept developed by the American architect William McDonough and the German chemist Michael Braungart in the 90s, and is based on a unified philosophy for the development of products and systems, through the implementation of a protocol sustainable design, capable of changing the design of the world as we know it. All this on the basis that the current economic model, based on a linear economy, in which resources are extracted, products are manufactured and consumed, and what remains is considered waste and is eliminated, is an unsustainable model in the short and medium term.

The Circular Economy aims to reverse these flows, which bring the products to the landfill, completely, returning them to the productive chains, which implies a loop management of all material and energy resources. That is, the design of the products must have material resources capable of working in a loop during the life cycle of our products and their value chains, minimizing the waste generated.

EuroVértice in the EU Greenweek

Posted by | Europe, EuroVértice | No Comments

“Green Jobs for a Greener Future” is the slogan chosen for this new edition of the EU Green Week 2017, which will bring initiatives from around the world to share their experiences of sustainable work within a circular economy model.

EUROVÉRTICE participates in this meeting as we are currently developing different projects in line with the new guidelines set by European environmental policies. More and more guidelines are being developed for the creation of a new circular utilization model to keep the value of products, materials, and resources in the economy for as long as possible and thus, minimize the generation of waste.

This new approach is generating important changes in the European economy, including the labor market. Despite the economic crisis of recent years; according to the organization, the environmental goods and services sector has created new jobs, with a growing demand for new types of “green skills” in different European professional sectors. An issue that will be dealt with extensively from 29 May to 2 June at EU Green Week, participated by companies looking for new sustainable business models, expanding their markets, and adapting innovative solutions for efficient use of resources.
